In choosing the best length for your pendant light shade, one of the most important factors to consider is the height of your room.   A common rule of thumb is 10 inches for a room with an 8-foot ceiling, and then add two inches of shade length for every additional foot of ceiling height.    That way, you fill the vertical space in your room proportionately.
